Picnic Chatter, Issue #001 -- teaser here January 19, 2025 |
HelloDon't forget anything for your Picnic ... And don't forget to take everything home!
I do remember having a lovely beach picnic with friends, when all our children were small... and we lived a good hour from the beach. But we were having a heat wave and a beach picnic was a wonderful idea. It was such a glorious day that we decided to stay on as the sun set... lazing, with toes buried in the cool sand, leaning against the warm rocks. Libations in hands, nibbling on the last morsels from the picnic food... ahh! I remember it well, so special.
It was still warm and balmy and small feet could paddle in the gentle waves in front of us, as they gathered their buckets of water to pour into the "castle moat". Older children looked for creatures amongst the rocks!

Our beach towels and wet beach clothes were strewn across the rocks to dry behind us. The sun set, children were getting tired and it was time to pack up and go home. Of course we didn't have a torch, so we did our best, gathering things to put back in the picnic baskets. ... And you guessed it, at the end of the hour drive home, with wet sandy kids... a little grumpy by now... there were no towels and other bits. They were still draped over the rocks at the beach! The tide was coming in, so Fathers raced aback to the beach, with a torch this time, to rescue towels, while we put grumpy kiddies to bed. It was still a magical day, even if an extra couple of hours driving were added to the end!
Platters like this are excellent for a relaxed day!
